Have you ever went away on a vacation and when you came back home, you felt like you needed another vacation to recover? Typically, we go on vacations to get away from our everyday routines to take our minds off of stressful factors allowing us to relax. We can quickly find ourselves trying to achieve as much as possible during our vacations to get the most out of the money spent on that vacation.
The cost of a vacation
For a destination vacation far away, you are going to have to purchase flights, hotel rooms, car service to get from the airport to the hotel and back, entertainment, and food. It is possible you go to an all-inclusive destination, which includes liquor, food, and entertainment for the most part. Either way, you are going to be spending a significant amount of money and will want to get the most out of your hard-earned dollars spent.
Putting efforts towards getting the most for your money, you may end up tiring yourself out by the end of the trip. By the time you get back home, you are thinking you need another vacation. Where exactly am I going with this?
Think differently about vacations
Did you ever think it might be nice to stay home during your vacation instead of going away? You will not feel the need to exhaust yourself, getting in as many activities as possible to get the biggest bang for your buck. You will also save on airfare, hotel rooms, and overpriced food. All of these factors should help you relax more, especially because you are not worried about how much money you are spending.
Vacation activities to do at home while you are on vacation
While you are at home on vacation, you can sleep in late, watch your favorite movies / tv shows, take a walk around the block, and visit local sites you do not have a chance to visit during your regular schedule. Keep in mind, you are also saving on travel time when you do vacation at a destination far away. If you have a swimming pool, you can relax poolside with a homemade margarita. Depending on where you live and what time of year it is, there are certainly endless activities you can do at home which will be just as fun as going away.
Financial impacts of vacation at home versus away
There is no doubt you are saving more when you are cutting out an expensive vacation, which may cost you upwards of $2,000. This may be an additional mortgage payment or utilized to repair your home. It does not mean you should never go away on vacation, but skipping a destination vacation now and then is not always necessarily a bad thing. It can actually lead to some good by freeing you up from additional debt. It might be worth thinking about for your next vacation.
