Who are you impressing anyways?

I wake up each morning, go to the gym for roughly 1 hour, shower, and go to work.  My intentions are to stay healthy and earn money for my family.  I strive to improve my situation everyday because I know it will help my family.  I drive the same vehicle I have been driving since 2011 and wear the same clothes I’ve been wearing for years.  I rarely spend a dime on my cent unless it is a necessity to live, like food.

There are some people who purchase the finest cars, clothes, and dinners, not for themselves, but to impress others.  It may be very impressive for you to drive a fancy car and have fancy clothes, but this is less impressive than financial responsibility.  If you are super rich, then this may not be a big deal.  If you are barely making it, then this is just outright stupid (in my opinion).  People always talk about us being ourselves, so why not start living up to this.  Be comfortable in your skin and current situation.  Don’t go out of your way to purchase things you cannot afford.  To even push this further, try saving if you can where you can.  In the long run, this will be extremely helpful to creating your financial stability.

Who are you trying to impress anyway?  If you are trying to impress strangers, then you are really not thinking this through.  These are strangers that you do not know and soon after you leave their presence, they will once again not know you.  If you are trying to impress your family and friends, then you are wasting your time because they are probably well aware you cannot afford that luxury vehicle you purchased.  A lot of purchases like cars and technologies, are not great investments.  Cars lose money as soon as they are driven off the lot and technologies become quickly outdated soon after you purchase them.  Have you ever heard of a technology becoming worth more after you purchased it?  There may be some, but I cannot think of any at the top of my head right now.  Let me know if you can think of any.

My opinion is this, put your desire to impress others aside and really live within your means.  This will help society out more than you could ever know.  There would be less cars being towed away after you cannot make your payment or unnecessary interest on credit cards you cannot pay off at the end of each month.  Try it out!!
