Walk of dreams

A few times a week, my wife, son, dog, and I take a walk around our neighborhood.  This time is used to stretch our legs, take in the fresh air, and talk about life.  The route is roughly 1 mile, which wraps around by the lake near our house.  There are a few larger houses on the path, which I like to admire.  Many of these houses have nice cars in their drive ways like the Mercedes-Benz G Wagon as shown in the picture or a Rolls Royce Dawn.  There are also more normal luxury cars such as Cadillac Escalades and  a Jaguar F-Type.  Although I know luxury cars are not great investments, I like to think I could eventually buy one.  I am most interested in the G Wagon, but at roughly $150k this vehicle is out of my price range.

Even though I may never purchase one of these luxurious cars in my entire life, I’d like to think I am setting my son up for success.  I am doing my best to give him a better life than I had, just like my father gave me the opportunity to have a better life than he had.  I believe each subsequent generation should improve and if the next generation does not improve, there must be something wrong.  If I do not give my son all the tools to do better than myself, than I have failed him.  I also will have failed him if I do not wish him to do better than myself.  These walks around our neighborhood help me realize I want a better life for my family.  We are doing well now, but there is always room for improvement.  I call the walk- a walk of dreams because we are walking through an area that we would like to see ourselves one day experiencing.

You could also take a walk through a poor neighborhood and come to the realization that you do not want to live in that neighborhood.  For example, if you walk through the ghetto (assuming you make it), you will immediately realize you do not want to live that lifestyle.  At this point of my life I do not feel this would be a good tactic for me or my family.  The better strategy is to walk through a neighborhood that is achieving and it will give us something to look forward to.  It also gives us the opportunity to talk to these people and get to know them.  They are capable and willing to provide me with tips on how to get there.  They invite us to their parties and help us network in their circles of success.  It is always important to network up to a higher class of people.  These are just a few of my ideas around improving, which may not be true for all.  Some other people may have other ideas, which is fine and I will respect that.  For now, this is working for me.
